Artist and Explorer

"Art has entwined nature, culture, and science for centuries.  Long before the concept of the parks was framed, artists and their art works were already inspiring support for exploration, and sometimes for protection of the special places they knew.  Artists have accompanied explorers on many expeditions, from which they brought back images of grand vistas, strange and beautiful life forms, diverse cultures, unspoiled skies, waters and landscapes, and some of the earliest visual records of places that would later be set aside as parks." -Robert A. Winfree
